Military AWOL Lawyer

“Aaron Meyer is not your typical “bow tie” attorney. His strong demeanor is complimented with intelligence and honesty. He is an articulate representative that will coherently define your position and command justice, two things that will bring comfort to any uncertain situation. My family and I owe a great debt to Aaron Meyer.” -A. R., former client

When you or a loved one has left the military service before the end your contract or without permission, you can be sure that you have been placed in a Desertion, Unauthorized Absence, or Absent without Leave (AWOL) status. Typically a federal warrant is placed for your arrest. This can impact your ability to get a job, apply for school, vote, use government programs, or move about freely. Worse, when you are discovered with this outstanding federal warrant, you will be placed in local jail, then returned to the military and immediately placed in confinement until your case is resolved.

If you are in a Deserter/Unauthorized Absence/AWOL status and you work with an attorney to voluntarily turn yourself in before being arrested, the consequences and likelihood of facing long confinement, or any confinement at all, are greatly reduced. You may even have the opportunity to return to active duty and complete your contract if you desire.

Defenses do exist to UA or AWOL allegations. If you were forced to leave, given permission to leave, or physically prevented from returning, you may have a defense. Desertion/UA/AWOL also has many technical defenses. Many civilian and military defense lawyers do not understand or do not use jurisdictional and statute of limitations defenses that are sometimes available in Desertion/AWOL/UA cases, especially long-term Unauthorized Absence cases.

With the right attorney, you may be able to get this Military chapter of your life handled much more smoothly than you think, with minimal pain. We want you to be able to return to your civilian life with little hassle and without the constant fear of being arrested as a deserter.

“Aaron takes his work very seriously and ultimately gave me back my faith in the legal system and that justice can and will prevail if you stick to your guns!…I would recommend him to anyone looking for who I consider to be one of the best damn Defense Attorneys around!” – J.E., former client

Aaron Meyer has seen hundreds of Deserter/Unauthorized absence cases. He has had Servicemembers return from years as a deserter, fight, and be retained in the military. He has had dozens of deserters accept quick administrative punishment, be quickly processed out of the military, and returned back to their lives with a clean criminal record. Aaron Meyer has also defeated other alleged deserter/UA/AWOL cases with procedural, factual, and jurisdictional technical defenses.
